Dario Amodei
CEO · Anthropic
Co-founder and CEO of Anthropic, the AI safety company behind the Claude family of models.
Who Is Dario Amodei
Dario Amodei is the co-founder and CEO of Anthropic, an AI safety and research company. A physicist by training, he previously led research teams at OpenAI, where he was VP of Research, and worked at Google Brain and Baidu before that.
What He Built
In 2021 Amodei left OpenAI with his sister Daniela and a group of senior researchers to found Anthropic, with a stated mission of building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The company developed Claude, a family of large language models, and pioneered Constitutional AI — a training method that aligns model behavior to a written set of principles rather than relying purely on human feedback.
Why He Matters
Amodei has positioned Anthropic as the AI lab most explicitly oriented around safety, and he is a frequent contributor to public discussion of AI risk, interpretability, and policy. His essay “Machines of Loving Grace” laid out an optimistic case for what powerful AI could do for science and health, while his testimony and writing on catastrophic risk have shaped how policymakers think about frontier model governance.
